UPDATE: Obama's Charlottesville Tweet is the Most Liked Ever
UPDATE: At 10:07 PM EST, on Tuesday evening, Barack Obama's tweet about Charlottesville, which quotes Nelson Mandela, officially became the most liked Tweet ever.
Twitter confirmed the achievement last night:
As of now, the tweet has more than 3 million likes and counting.
See the original story below:
The Obama tweet has gained 2.5 million likes and 1 million retweets.
Following the violence that occurred in Charlottesville, Virginia, around the "Unite The Right" white supremacy rally, Barack Obama took to Twitter and posted a picture of him interacting with the three children from different backgrounds and captioned the photo with the following: "No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion..."
Quoting Nelson Mandela (the line comes from the iconic revolutionary's autobiography Long Walk to Freedom), Obama's tweet has since received 2.5 million likes and 1 million retweets, making it the second-most liked tweet of all time (first belongs to a tweet from Ariana Grande where she spoke out on the deadly bombing that occurred at her concert in England earlier this year, having 2.7 million likes).
