Obamas Rumored To Buy $10 Million Apartment In New York City
Barack and Michelle Obama are reportedly eyeing a duplex on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
According to a report from Page Six that relies on several anonymous sources, the Obamas are looking at 10 Gracie Square, which happens to be near New York Mayor Bill de Blasio's residence, Gracie Mansion. As Page Six reports:
Built in 1930, the white-glove, full-service, pre-war building has 15 floors and 43 apartments. Other notables who have lived there include Gloria Vanderbilt, conductor André Kostelanetz and New Yorker critic Alexander Woollcott.
The duplex also includes a gym and indoor basketball court, as well as an underground drive-in garage. A duplex apartment at 10 Gracie Square went into contract last week for $10 million, with real estate insiders speculating that the apartment is for the Obamas. The residence was designed by architect Daniel Romualdez and features five bedrooms, four baths, a library with a wood-burning fireplace, and views of the East River.

Obama recently spoke about dropping his oldest daughter, Malia Obama, off at Harvard University to start school. During an event at the Beau Biden Foundation last week, Obama revealed that dropping Malia off at college was an emotional, very difficult experience for him, comparing the moment to "open-heart surgery."
"For those of us who have daughters, it just happens fast. I dropped off Malia at college, and I was saying to Joe and Jill [Biden] that it was a little bit like open-heart surgery and I was proud that I did not cry in front of her," Obama said. "But on the way back, the Secret Service was off, looking straight ahead, pretending they weren’t hearing me as I sniffled and blew my nose. It was rough."
