O.J. Simpson Granted Parole For Las Vegas Robbery
He will be out as soon as October 1, 2017.
In a report from CNN, the parole board members who voted for Simpson's release Thursday afternoon cited his support in the community and stable plans after life in prison, with OJ Simpson receiving a unanimous vote for his release (four out of four). During the hearing Bruce Fromong, one of the victims of Simpson's robbery testified in support of his release.
"It's time to give him a second chance," Fromong said. "He made a mistake."
Simpson then took the stand for his closing remarks, where he reflected on his time being in prison.
"I've spent nine years making no excuses about anything," Simpson said. "I told the warden when I got here...that I would be no problem. I think I kept my word."
"The board members are intelligent professionals and I am confident they will arrive at a very carefully considered decision," Patton added. "And unlike some I cannot and have no desire to try to predict the outcome."
UPDATE: The conditions of O.J. Simpson's parole have been revealed, according to TMZ, and it appears that he will be allowed to smoke weed and drink alcohol, as long as he does it in moderation and is responsible.
He will be occasionally tested and he is not able to be allowed to use any controlled substances without a doctor's prescription. The kicker to all of this is that O.J. must obey all laws. Any lapse in judgment will land him back in prison, so you know the Juice better be careful because people will be gunning for him once he's free. The other points of his conditions are pretty regular: don't associate with known convicted felons, no weapons and check in regularly with his parole officer.
Ladies and gentlemen, O.J. Simpson is a free man. How do you feel about it? Share your thoughts with us below.
