Omarosa's NABJ Appearance Was Very Tense
Omarosa Manigault has caused an uproar at this year's National Association of Black Journalists convention.
The senior White House aide was added to the event last minute after New York Times journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones and the New Yorker's Jelani Cobb pulled out of a panel titled "Black and Blue." Hannah-Jones, who was supposed to serve as moderator, was replaced by Bounce TV's Ed Gordon.
Speaking with Page Six, Cobb reportedly pulled out from the speaking event not just because of the addition of Omarosa but because "she was added at the eleventh hour and it was unclear whether we would be able to discuss substantive issues regarding the administration and its policing policies. Also, the panel was very disorganized, and basic things like format were not clear."
Ultimately, the panel turned into a very tense argument between Gordon and Omarosa, with the latter stating that she came to the event to speak about the murders of her father and brother, but was instead greeted by questions related to Donald Trump. Members of the audience also turned their backs to the stage to protest Omarosa's appearance.
There were some important topics briefly discussed such as Omarosa being one of a few black people within Trump's administration, as well as his recent remarks seeming to encourage police brutality. However, 30 minutes into her appearance onstage, Omarosa left, with Gordon reportedly telling her "I'll see y'all at the White House Christmas party in December," as she walked out.
