Season Two of Open Mike Eagle's 'What Had Happened' Podcast to Focus on El-P's Career
The second season of Open Mike Eagle's What Had Happened Was podcast arrives March 31st.
The theme and release date for the second season of Open Mike Eagle's What Had Happened Was podcast has been revealed. The entire season will focus on the career of El-P, from his beginnings with Company Flow, to founding Definitive Jux, to his resurgence with Run the Jewels. The first episode arrives on March 31st.
“I was psyched to sit down with Mike Eagle and do what every artist likes to do most: talk endlessly about myself,” El-P said in a press release. “Hopefully my shattered, weed addled memory didn’t get too much in the way.”
In the preview, El-P revealed how Company Flow came together. Stream the preview below. "It was originally going to be solo," he explained. "We were going to put out some jams separately, one side was going to be Company Flow (Mr. Len and El-P) and the other side was going to be Eight Steps to Perfection (Bigg Jus and El-P). I remember prepping to do that, and I was like, 'why don't you just be in Company Flow?"
Last season of the podcast focused on the life and times of DJ/producer Prince Paul. After its release, Open Mike Eagle released his fifth solo studio album, Anime, Trauma and Divorce. The project features guest appearances from Lil A$e, Kari Faux, and Video Dave.
El-P is fresh off the release of the long-awaited Run the Jewels 4. The project featured contributions from Greg Nice, DJ Premier, 2 Chainz, Pharrell Williams and Zack de la Rocha. Variety and NME named the album the best album of 2020. The project peaked at number 10 on the US Billboard 200.
