Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight Put on a Master Class for Latest Verzuz Battle
The latest Verzuz battle featured a guest appearance from Dionne Warwick.
On Sunday night, Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight came together from a venue in Philadelphia for the latest edition of Swizz Beatz and Timbaland's Verzuz series. The two soul legends talked about the upcoming election, their culinary ventures, and much more.
Each armed with an array of classics, the two spent about two hours trading songs and stories. The first round featured Patti's "All Right Now," while Gladys played "The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me." Patti followed in the next rounds with "If You Asked Me To," and "Stir It Up." Gladys, on the other hand, countered with "Make Yours A Happy Home," "Every Beat of My Heart," and "On and On."
Standout rounds included match-ups like Patti's "My Love, Sweet Love" from the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack against Gladys' number-one hit "Midnight Train to Georgia," Patti's "Lady Marmalade" against Gladys' "Love Overboard." Just over halfway through the battle, the order got a bit muddled. About 14 rounds in, the two brought out Dionne Warwick, who joined them to perform "That's What Friends are For" and "Superwoman."
Towards the end of the evening, both parties had kicked their shoes off and focused on the music and memories, rather than the battle. To be fair, none of the viewers really were offended by the choice.
