Busta Rhymes & Redman Honor Phife Dawg in Touching "Nutshell Pt. 2" Video
The track appears on the new Phife Dawg album Forever.
Last month, the family of the late founding member of A Tribe Called Quest Malik "Phife Dawg" Taylor announced the forthcoming release of his posthumous solo album, Forever. Along with the announcement, the Phife Dawg estate released "Nutshell Pt. 2," a J Dilla-produced sequel to the first single released after his passing. On Monday, the fifth anniversary of Phife's passing, the family released the official video for the sequel, featuring Busta Rhymes and Redman. Stream the new video below.
The Tony Reames-directed video finds the three MCs talking shop at a local diner. Consequence and DJ Rasta Root make guest appearances. Redman, Phife, and a fur-coat flaunting Busta trade bars in front of a white screen.
On what would be Phife's 50th birthday, his family estate gave an update on the status of the album. "Know that early next year you will all get to hear a new Phife album," a tweet from the Tribe Twitter account read. For now, the project doesn't have an official release date.
"We give all glory to God for allowing Malik to accomplish everything his heart desired," his family said in a statement. "Including his solo music. He worked really hard to complete his album before he transitioned, and he was ready to share an album that was near and dear to his heart with his fans. His fans meant the world to him.”
