Charlie Murphy's Infamous Prince Story Resurfaces Amid Viral Video Of Him Shooting Hoops
A video of Prince shooting a free throw during a concert is all people needed to now believe he actually beat Charlie Murphy.
A viral video of Prince shooting hoops during his own concert has lead to fans revisiting Charlie Murphy's infamous story about playing him in a game of basketball.
The video was shared Thursday afternoon, and shows the late musician stepping away from his band as they play "I Wanna Be Your Lover," to shoot a quick jumper on a basketball court near the stage. (The clip is apparently from a 1988 performance, according to this YouTube video.) Seeing him pull off the shot in an outfit reminiscent of the one Dave Chappelle wore in his Chappelle's Show skit, fans now have no doubt that Murphy actually lost to Prince.
As the late comedian shared in his True Hollywood Stories about the Purple One, he was beaten in a pick-up basketball game by Prince and the Revolution, which he jokingly referred to as "shirts versus blouses." Well, blouses won, and after losing Prince reveled in the win by serving Murphy pancakes.
Eddie Murphy recently offered a play-by-play of the game during an appearance on The Tonight Show, admitting this his brother's hilarious account of the moment was spot-on.
"We had on club clothes and Prince had on that outfit that was in the ‘Kiss’ video, where he had the little short shirt and the leather jacket with the buttons. He had that outfit on and a little gold chain around his waist,” Murphy recalled, before saying that Prince and his team "beat the f**k out of us."
