Prince Will Be Honored With All-Star Grammy Tribute Featuring Sheila E., Alicia Keys & Gary Clark Jr.
The tribute will feature several different eras of the artist’s musical career.
Prince will be honored by a star-studded performance featuring Alicia Keys, John Legend and others after this year’s Grammy Awards.
Rolling Stone reports the tribute concert titled "Let’s Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince" will air on television later this year and will take place on January 28. Former Prince percussionist and longtime friend Sheila E. will be the night’s musical director.
The evening will also feature performances by Earth, Wind, and Fire, Common, H.E.R., Mavis Staples, St. Vincent, Beck, Chris Martin, Gary Clark Jr. and Juanes. Additionally, rounding out the lineup are former Prince collaborators like Susanna Hoffs of the the Bangles and Morris Day and the Time. Prince’s old band the Revolution will also pay tribute to the late artist.
The Prince tribute follows past “Grammy Salute” concerts, which have honored acts like Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Motown. According to Rolling Stone, the performances will cover several different eras of Prince’s musical career alongside biographical segments.
When speaking of the upcoming tribute Sheila E. shared:
“I was very honored to be able to do this for so many reasons, but to be able to help celebrate the life of a dear friend and be a part of this and be musical director is awesome. Musically, there’s so much to choose from. It’s almost unfair to do a two-hour tribute to him — we could do a full week.”
