Life is a Parade: Celebrate Prince, ‘Under the Cherry Moon’ in Philly with Screen/Play
screen/play is linking up with Okayplayer and Questlove for an intimate tribute to Prince and his Under the Cherry Moon classic.
On July 29th, we’ll gather to honor Prince's musical and cinematic genius in Philadelphia. We’ll pay tribute to Under the Cherry Moon (Questlovecalls it a “classic”) and its brilliant Parade soundtrack with a screening, brunch service, DJ set, live music, and more.
The brunch event will be the fourth edition of screen/play, a live series that celebrates classic films with memorable soundtracks. Taking place at World Cafe Live, doors open at 11:30 a.m., with the show starting at 12:30 p.m. The film will begin following a premiere viewing of an exclusive video letter from Okayplayer’s own Prince expert, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson.

The clip will share Questlove’s favorite Prince memories and give us a glimpse at his never-before-seen collection of Prince memorabilia -- including the Purple One’s handwritten notebook for his UTCM script. Catch our first look teaser of the interview below.
Created and produced by Cali Green, screen/play has paid homage to The Last Dragon with Taimak and El DeBarge, Juice with Ernest Dickerson, Khalil Kain, and more, and School Daze for Grammy weekend (as part of The Roots' Jam Sessions). Hosted by fellow Prince aficionado, Jay Smooth (Ill Doctrine), the July 29th event will close out with a Parade-inspired DJ set and live musical performances.
