Pusha T Says Artists Making Long Albums to Boost Streaming Numbers is "Cheating"

Pusha T isn't really feeling the long albums trend.

During a recent interview with Anupa Mistry at the 2018 Red Bull Music Festival in Berlin, the G.O.O.D. Music president criticized artists who pack their albums with tracks to game the streaming system. In tandem, he explained how Kanye West convinced him to make his DAYTONA album seven songs long.

Around the 49-minute mark, the rapper says, “What really sold me, because [Kanye] knows I’m so anti the idea of everybody putting like 25 tracks on an album to get the streams up and all of that." he continues, “It’s such a poverty way of cheating to me. I’m not into it. So I was like, ‘You know what, you’re right. We need to be totally against everything, and we need to just have a whole other mantra in regard to what we’re doing in this wave.”

Some of the artists who have been releasing lengthy albums in recent have been Migos with Culture II (24 songs), Lil Wayne with Tha Carter V (23 songs),  and Drake with Scorpion (25 songs). Drake, Pusha T's recent rival, has garnered massive streaming numbers and broke records following the release of his album. His last two projects with his 20-track album Views and More Life, were 20 and 22 songs long, respectively.
