Queen Latifah Is Working On A 'Living Single' Reboot
Queen Latifah wants to bring back one of the most important black sitcoms of the '90s — Living Single.
During an appearance this past Thursday on Watch What Happens Live, the multi talented Queen Latifah revealed that a Living Single revival was in the works, when a guest called in and asked her about the possibility of bringing the show back.
"We're actually working on it," she said. "It's not there yet but hopefully we can get it going."
If this revival of Living Single comes to fruition, it would mark the first time in which a major black '90s sitcom scored a revival. Still, we will see what happens. Queen Latifah did not offer any other details on the show (if the original cast would be reprising their roles for example) since it seems to be in its early stages of development.
The last televised event in relation to Living Single was back in 2008, when TV One aired the Living Single: The Reunion Special. The hour long retrospective special found the cast members (minus Queen Latifah who was unavailable to participate) sharing fond memories with fans, as well as displaying special clips from the show's five year run.
Plenty of popular black works from both TV and film are finding themselves being revived for new and old audiences alike. Late last year came the announcement that Spike Lee was going to bring back his feature film She's Gotta Have It as a 10 episode Netflix series.
The idea of a TV series for Lee's first film has been around for the past two years: originally Showtime had partnered with the director to bring the show to life, but now it is coming to fruition thanks to Netflix. Lee held a casting call for the forthcoming show back in October, so hopefully we will hear more news about the series at some point this year.
