Questlove & Anthony Bourdain Talk House Music Over Chicken & Waffles
World traveller and culinary journeyman Anthony Bourdain recently paid a trip to Miami, in hopes of learning more about the city's music background and food scene. And Bourdain, worldly and knowledgable jet-setter that he is, tapped none other than Questlove to guide him in part, meeting the drummer/DJ/gourmand for a enlightening (and filling) lunch.
The clip is a preview of Anthony Bourdain's upcoming Parts Unknown episode, which will air next Sunday on CNN. In the brief scene, Bourdain had nothing but flattery for Questo, praising his growth as a food aficionado that's willing to go great lengths for a very special meal, and then claiming that the drummer's work ethic makes (deep breaths) James Brown look lazy. "If we're counting, technically I have 16 jobs right now," Quest said.
But ever the eager music nerd, Questlove really opened up once the conversation shifted to electronic music and the birth of the Miami sound. "You can't say something specific," he assured. "But I do consider the sound of Miami to be the beginning of really great dance music."
As the clip rolls on we get tortured, watching the mesmerizing eats that make their way to the table. Bourdain and Quest feast on deviled eggs with fresh dill and trout roe, fried green tomatoes and the requisite chicken and waffles, all in one meal.
