Questlove & Black Thought Are Launching a New Disney Series
Disney is prepping new animated music series Rise Up, Sing Out executive produced by Questlove and Black Thought of The Roots.
Disney is ready to empower young multi-cultural viewers with new animated short-form series Rise Up, Sing Out. Executive produced by Questloveand Black Thoughtof The Roots, the eight-episode musical series will provide messages of optimism, self-love and celebrating diversity.
According to Variety, Questlove and Black Thought are both executive producers and composers for Rise Up, Sing Out. They are also depicted in the series as animated characters.
The show comes after parents asked platform Disney Junior for entertainment content geared towards children about diversity and inclusion. Apparently, questioning Disney Junior paid off, as viewers can look forward to episodes about Black hair and the mispronounced or stigmatization of multi-cultural names.
“The Rise Up, Sing Out shorts touch on a lot of real-world issues, especially for young Black kids, that just weren’t talked about when we were growing up. The beautiful thing about these shorts is that not only are they going to provide young kids the proper language to talk to their friends and family about some of the things that might be bothering them, but it’s also going to give parents the tools on how to respond,” Questlove and Black Thought said in a prepared statement.
Latoya Raveneau, director of upcoming series The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, is also an executive produced of Rise Up, Sing Out.
Walt Disney Records will release the music from Rise Up, Sing Out on Friday, Feb. 4.
