Quinta Brunson Says "No" To Requests For An 'Abbott Elementary' School Shooting Episode
In the wake of Tuesday's Uvalde tragedy, Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson has gotten requests to do a school shooting episode.
Quinta Brunson is putting her foot down. On Wednesday, one day after the Robb Elementary shooting in Uvalde, Texas, the creator and star of hit ABC series Abbott Elementary revealed that she's gotten fan requests for an episode about school shooting, but has declined.
"Wild how many people have asked for a school shooting episode of the show I write," Brunson wrote. "People are that deeply removed from demanding more from the politicians they've elected and are instead demanding 'entertainment.' I can't ask 'are yall ok' anymore because the answer is 'no.' "
In follow-up tweets, Brunson urged viewers to "use that energy to ask your elected official to get on Beto time and nothing less. I'm begging you," referencing Democrat Beto O'Rouke confronting Greg Abbottat a news press conference addressing the shooting this past Wednesday. (O'Rouke is running against Abbott to become governor of Texas.)
"I don't want to sound mean, but I want people to understand the flaw in asking for something like this," Brunson continued. "We're not okay. this country is rotting our brains. im sad about it."
The screenwriter and actress then posted a screenshot of a message she received from a person who suggested that the series finale should be a "school shooting episode."
Bruson spoke with Okayplayerearlier this month about the intention behind Abbott Elementary.
“The main goal of Abbott is just [being] a comedy. I really hope we give people a place to come and enjoy a TV show, ultimately,” she said. “It’s wonderful that while doing that, it’s able to make educators feel seen and make them feel validated in their experiences. [There’s] been an overwhelming response of positivity about the show.”
