Raekwon Delivers A Double-Shot Of Throwback Funk w/ "Zoom/Free"
Raekwon's reign as Thursday's king appears to be coming to an end, but it's a blissful one folks. For nearly 5 months straight, The Chef has been blessing our fourth day with verbal aerobics over some of r&b, funk and soul's most important or cherished cuts. From The Jacksons to The Isley's to Mr. Wonderlove and virtually everyone in between or thereafter, Rae has flexed grammar on them all. He even put his spin on more contemporary derivatives of those foundational forefathers and mothers, like Faith Evans, Amerie and Sunshine Anderson.
It's been a long half-year, but today the Shaolin mic-slayer is capping off his distilled funk affair with a double dose; an A-side and B-side, if you will. First up, a little lyrical wizardry over Big Bub's (yes, that Big Bub) smoothed-out '97 cut "Zoom," which fades into the funky and familiar mid-tempo strut of Deniece Williams' "Free." It's been damn good run and it'll certainly be sad to see the series end, but I suppose all good things do. Hopefully this means his forthcoming Fly International Luxurious Art LP is finally on its way. Put your ears to the grand finale of Raekwon's Throwback Thursday series down below and keep it locked as FILA should be creeping up on us any day now.
