The Kid Daytona x J.Period - "Wrong Side" (#RAGEISBACK Freestyle) [No Tags]
By popular demand, J. Period has unleashed this mixtape jewel from The Kid Daytona, the latest loosie from the sterling #RAGEISBACK mixtape/soundtrack. In perfect keeping with the throwback themes and gritty texture of Rage Is Back (the "Great American Graffiti Novel" by Adam Mansbach>>>purchase here on iBookstore), J laid down the classic "Wrong Side Of The Tracks" beat from The Artifacts for Daytona to rap on. The Artifacts, of course, were known to dabble in the aerosol arts themselves and the immortal bit of jazz-rap they created in ode to the culture sounds like nothing so much as Lisa Simpson hopping a freight, hobo-style, and blowing the soul out a saxophone over a tuff breakbeat as trains cla-clack-clakc in the background. Daytona runs his rhymes on time and on schedule and the result is definitely one of the highlights of the whole tape--which may sound like faint praise until your realize the tape also includes Black Thought rapping on "N.Y. State Of Mind" and Common reprising "I Used To Love H.E.R." over a Portishead flip.
