Raphael Saadiq, Lee Fields + BJ The Chicago Kid Discuss Their Roots On E&J Brandy's 'Generations Of Soul'
Raphael Saadiq, Lee Fields and BJ The Chicago Kid--each of these three men is a soul music luminary in their own right. Fields represents the maintaining vigor of vintage soul singing, Saadiq hails from the hip-hop-tinged movements of the 90s and aughts, while BJ is just starting out on his career, already showing promise as a crooner of dozens of hooks. The three recently got together to talk shop as a multi-epoch triumvirate for E&J Brandy's new Generations of Soul video series. The campaign, which features each artist in an individual spot as well as a teaser of all three together, is a part of the company's 40 year birthday celebration and will run through the rest of 2015.
"I think soul is of the spirit, and spirit is of the creator. So when I sing in a soulful fashion, that feeling that comes out of me is not of this place," Fields says in the introductory clip.
Getting all three artists together for the campaign was something of an R&B coup for E&J."The connection to authenticity and tradition was quite obviously the linking point," company marketing director Anna Bell told Billboard, who premiered the videos earlier today. "We wanted to combine forces with inspirational artists who come from different places and perspectives but possess the passion and excitement for their craft and respect for the past as we do." Watch the teaser introductory video below and be sure to catch the individual break out clips from Lee Fields, Raphael Saadiq, and BJ and be on the lookout for future installments of Generations of Soul.
