LargeUp Presents: Reggae Hiphop Vet Red Fox Drops 'Fiyah Fox' - Mixtape Launch In NYC Tonight!
LargeUp is having a Bashment Party. Can you feel the vibes? Our Caribbean-minded channel partners have been working with hiphop and dancehall veteran Red Fox (anybody remember that NYC Badmen compilation that had "Ghetto Red Hot" on it?) on his brand new mixtape Fiyah Fox. The mixtape premieres today on LargeUp.com and get its official launch bashment in NYC tonight at the now-legendary Brand New Machine party in the LES featuring Max Glazer of Federation Sound on the set plus foundational reggae from Deadly Dragon Soundsystem.
In addition to high-powered mixtape production courtesy of Safari Sound's DJ Shirkhan Fox appears to have called in a lot of high-powered favors for the guestlist, including Shaggy, Rayvon, Naturalee, Gramps Morgan, Screechy Dan, Christopher Martin, and Chico. Besides bashment-stormers like "Bashment Party" with Rayvon and "Pose Off (Pum Pum Shorts)" with Screechy Dan--both still among the most played/remixed/sampled/quoted dancehall tunes of all time--Red’s always been known for his diverse lyrical themes, and Fiyah Fox definitely touches all of the bases, from culture tunes to dancefloor fillers and even a little much-needed comedy. Okayplayers, however, may remember him best for his collaborations with Brand Nubian and his own staunchly pro-black experiments in hiphop reggae fusion like "Dem A Murderer." Those classic East Coast raggamuffin vibes are stongly present on Fiyah Fox as well, Exhibit A being the uptempo "We Run The Party" which finds Fox and Screechy going in yard-style over Method Man's "Bring The Pain" beat--run it below:
The party sets off at 10pm tonight at The Delancey in the Lower East Side but Fox will also be stopping by the LargeUp Sessions radio show with DJ Rampage and LargeUp editors Jesse Serwer and Sherman Escoffery beforehand (6 to 8pm EST on RadioLily.com.) Chune in--or if you're in Galhattan, stop by the corner of Houston & Sullivan, where show broadcasts from the storefront of Miss Lily's Variety (130 W. Houston near 6th Avenue in the West Village).
