Robert Glasper and Denzel Curry Link Up to Perform "This Changes Everything"
Robert Glasper links up with Denzel Curry for a quick performance.
This past October, Robert Glasper released F*ck Yo Feelings, a mixtape recorded on the first two days of a 56-show residency at the Blue Note in New York. The project was an organic endeavor, with Glasper inviting artists from different paths to contribute to the project. On Tuesday, he released a live performance of "This Changes Everything" with Denzel Curry. Watch the full performance below.
F*ck Yo Feelings earned Glasper a Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album. The projectreunited Glasper with Chris Dave and Derrick Hodge for the first time since the Grammy-winning first Black Radio. The track was originally set to be on Glasper's forthcoming Black Radio 3 album, but the project was pushed back until 2021.
In the meantime, Glasper teamed up with Kamasi Washington, 9th Wonder and Terrace Martin to release Dinner Party and Dinner Party: Dessert, with reimagined versions of the original project's tracks, which feature major names like Herbie Hancock, Snoop Dogg, Bilal, Tank and the Bangas, and Rapsody.
"Better Than I Imagine," with H.E.R. and Meshell Ndegeocello, earned a nomination for Best R&B Song. Glasper describes the track as an ode to Black love. “Black lives matter and so does black love;" he said in a statement. "No one wants a life without love, but we have generations of people in our community who haven’t had the tools to actually be in healthy relationships."
Released during widespread protests after the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, Glasper remarked on the effects of systemic racism on relationships. "If we’re going to talk about [racism]," he continued, "we have to also talk about how it affects our relationships — how we communicate, how we see ourselves, how we treat each other. It’s not always good, even though maybe it could be.
