Throwback Thursday: Hear Run DMC & A Tribe Called Quest Freestyle On Unearthed Tim Westwood Session
It's Throwback Thursday, y'all! And what better way to celebrate the the many golden years of the game, than some live and direct freestyles from two of New York City's finest and most formidable crews? Just a few moments ago, Tim Westwood dug into what has to be a mammoth archive and unearthed a rare clip that offers a rare glance at a meeting between Run-DMC and A Tribe Called Questin his studio during his Capital FM days from the early '90s.
Here you'll find each camp dropping daggers in a laid-back and lighthearted battle that proves cooperation will always beat-out competition in the long run. Q-Tip and Phife Dawg spit familiar verses to the trained ear, while Run goes a little bit harder than what I'm sure most are accustomed to. But hell, even Jarobi grabs the mic for a bit, showing his talents weren't merely reserved for the crew's classic debut People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm.
So go ahead, get yourself a mighty dose of nostalgia with this below. And then once you've had your fill, be sure to thank Tim Westwood for the look. A Tribe Called Quest's debut will be reissued next month for those looking to continue the voyage.
