Schoolboy Q - "Studio" (Grandtheft Edit)
August 08, 2014
Mad Decent producer Grandtheft surfaces to drop his take on an Oxymoron LP standout with the arrival of "Studio" (Grandtheft Edit). His take on the Schoolboy Q track amps up the trap and adjusts the bpm just enough make the track move seamlessly from the whip to the dancefloor. The bassed up, booty-moving party track does right by the original Swiff D production and still packs just enough energy to capture the hearts of the club kids. Grandtheft discusses his decision to touch the track:
"My studio is on the east side of downtown Toronto and I live closer to the west side. For some reason, every time I would leave a long studio session and get in my car to drive home, 'Studio' would be on satellite radio. So many times in a row, it was uncanny. I wasn't playing it in my sets but it grew on me and I needed a version that would go with my tunes 'Flying,' 'Heavy Hitterz,' 'My House,' and my Sub Focus remix...Dark and vibey club music. I played ['Studio'] for the whole Australia/New Zealand tour, put it in my Triple J exclusive mix...Now lots of DJ friends and fans have asked for it. As I am finishing some new originals, I am happy to release this one!"
