Seun Kuti And Black Thought Champion "People Power" On "Kuku Kee Me (Remix)" [Premiere]
Fresh off the release of Cheat Codes with Danger Mouse, Black Thought joins Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti on the "Kuku Kee Me (Remix)."
Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat icon Fela Kuti, musician and vocalist, represents "people power" on new single "Kuku Kee Me (Remix)." The song, a remix of Seun's "Kuku Kee Me" from his 2018 LP Black Times, is accompanied by an animated video featuring Black Thought, with both artists sharing their unique perspectives on the world. Seun and Black Thought first connected on Common's 2021 song "When We Move," from his fourteenth studio album A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2.
Following Seun's Live at Clout Studios EP that released in June, "Kuku Kee Me (Remix)" will be included on the official FIFA 23 soundtrack and his upcoming EP.
"This EP is something new. I don't think that something like this has been done before," Seun said in a statement. "Many people used to remix songs, hip-hop songs, but I think that this EP is the beginning of a new wave — Afrobeat and hip-hop, a new beginning of a musical relationship."
Since first meeting Black Thought in 2019, Seun said he considers The Roots frontman a "mentor," a friendship that made the Cheat Codes rapper suitable for "Kuku Kee Me (Remix)."
"Black Thought delivers a message that connects us to the future, understanding that present and knowing that past," Seun said. "Every time he speaks, he shows this connection and it means that he is a great artist, able to help the people to be at the right point in history."
Seun's new EP releases on November 11. Watch the "Kuku Kee Me" (Remix) music video below.
