Sleepy Brown Tells Outkast Fans ‘Not to Hold Their Breath’ For Outkast Reunion
While running into TMZ at LAX on Monday, Dungeon Family and frequent Outkast collaborator Sleepy Brown said that the duo hasn’t planned to reunite.
Dungeon Family vocalist Sleepy Brown is officially denouncing rumors of an Outkast reunion. Although the Atlanta rap pioneers last performed together during festival stops in 2016, Brown talked about their indefinite conclusion with TMZ while at LAX on Monday (June 11).
“No, they’re not. Dre is on a whole other journey and he’s doing something, I can’t answer,” Brown told TMZ. “But, me and Big [Boi] still doing tours and stuff like that.”
Sure enough, Brown and Big Boi have been occasional collaborators throughout the years post-Outkast. In 2021, the duo partnered for LP The Big Sleepover and, during a promotional interview on The Zane Lowe Show, Big Boi said he has enough unreleased footage from Outkast’s early years to release a documentary.
"I just so happen to be in possession of the last OutKast tours from 1998 to 2000-whatever. Like, hours and hours and hours," Big Boi told Lowe. "We had to watch [and] digitize the footage for, like, a month and a half. We had to sit through there and watch it. I got the greatest OutKast documentary, never sold. Locked in the vault.”
Brown – who also revealed to TMZ that his personal favorite Outkast album is Aquemini – doubled down on negating reunion rumors.
“Don’t hold your breath for no Outkast reunion. Don’t do it to yourself, it’s not gonna happen folks. If you wanna see us, we gonna be Dungeon Family, that’s about it,” he said.
As Brown aforementioned, André 3000 has been on “his own journey,” recently popping up with his signature flute in Tokyo, Japan. Around the same time, Big Boi was spotted at the Outkast-themed Atlanta Braves game night last month, where he threw the first pitch. The rapper, 48, is also on tour this summer, and will participate in the LL COOL J-headlined The F.O.R.C.E. Live concert series.
