The story of funkateer Sly Stone is coming to a bookstore near you. On Wednesday (March 22), the Sly and the Family Stone frontman announced that his upcoming memoir, Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin), will release on October 17. The memoir, co-authored by novelist and music journalist Ben Greenman, will arrive via AUWA Books, Questlove's new publishing imprint of MCD/FSG.
Questlove, who also wrote the book's foreword, has worked frequently with Greenman, who has penned memoirs on George Clinton, Brian Wilson, Gene Simmons and more.
"For as long as I can remember folks have been asking me to tell my story, I wasn’t ready," Sly said in a statement. "I had to be in a new frame of mind to become Sylvester Stewart again to tell the true story of Sly Stone. It’s been a wild ride and hopefully my fans enjoy it too."
"I have been writing books for over a decade, so it seemed like a natural step to publish them too," Questlove shared about his new imprint. "I’m very excited about AUWA Books, from the books we have lined up to the books we haven’t discovered yet. Let’s take it to the page."
Sly and the Family Stone was featured prominently in Questlove's Oscar-winning music documentary, Summer of Soul. The Roots member also announced plans to direct a documentary on the 80-year-old musician, which will be available to stream on Hulu.
