Snoop Dogg Headlines Democratic National Convention 'Unity Party'
After dropping his recently released COOLAID album, Snoop Dogg is getting ready for a special performance for the Democartic Party. In a statement from the Senate Majority PAC, the iconic West Coast rapper will be headlining a "unity party" for Democratic donors, at Philadelphia's Electric Factory later this month.
Snoop first announced his support for Hillary Clinton in May of last year, when he was a guest on Bravo's Watch What HappensLive."I would love to see a woman in office because I feel like we’re at that stage in life to where we need a perspective other than the male’s train of thought," he explained. "And just to have a woman speaking from a global perspective as far as representing America, I’d love to see that. So I’ll be voting for Ms. Clinton."
At first it seemed as if Snoop wasn't endorsing anybody this year. The artist had dropped multiple memes and videos in relation to this year's election, including a recent one where he mocked Republican Party nominee Donald Trump as a plant to get Clinton the presidential nomination.
Regardless, it's now clear that Snoop is team Clinton. Maybe his endorsement also has to deal with her stance on marijuana. The Democratic Party nominee appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this year, and used the opportunity to voice her position on marijuana policy reform. Although she disagreed with decriminalizing or legalizing marijuana on the federal level, she did support states' rights to legalize medical and recreational cannabis.
"I absolutely support all the states that are moving toward medical marijuana, moving toward absolutely legalizing it for recreational use, but I want to see what the states learn from that experience," Clinton said. "There are still a lot of questions we have to answer at the federal level."
Snoop Dogg isn't the first rapper to endorse Clinton. Ice-T, Kanye West, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and many others have voiced their support for the former Secretary of State.
