Sony Is Parting Ways With R. Kelly Following 'Surviving R. Kelly' Docuseries Release
The allegations of sexual and physical abuse against R. Kelly resurfaced following the release of the Lifetime documentary series Surviving R. Kelly.
Following the release of Surviving R. Kelly, Sony and R. Kelly have agreed to part ways, according to Billboard. The report adds that the story is still developing.
The Chicago R&B singer is facing backlash in light of Surviving R. Kelly, the Lifetime documentary series that featured interviews with over 50 people about Kelly, many of whom were women who detailed the artist's alleged long history of sexual, physical, and mental abuse.
Recently, a resurfaced podcast interview with Jim DeRogatis, the reporter who has pursued the sexual and physical abuse allegations against Kelly since 2000, revealed that Kelly and Aaliyah had made an agreement where the latter vowed to not pursue further legal claims of physical abuse.
"The annulment of the Aaliyah marriage and Aaliyah’s legal claim against him had been sealed in Detroit…they were sealed by the court but those documents were provided to me," DeRogatis said. "It’s a harrowing document, a non-disclosure agreement on both her part and Kelly’s, vowing not to pursue further legal claims for physical abuse. So it wasn’t just an underage sexual relationship, he hit her, allegedly, according to that court document."
