OKP Premiere: Philip Owusu - "Goodnight"
UPDATE: "Goodnight" is now downloadable via Philip Owusu's bandcamp page--stream via the embedded player at bottom and download for the cost of US $1!
You may remember Copenhagen soulcat Philip Owusu--if you're a longtime okayplayer or Quadron fanatic--from his Owusu & Hannibalcollaboration. But we would like to take this opportunity to re-introduce himself and, more to the point, a brilliant new solo album he's got in the works (to get the full story >>>Read The Okayplayer Interview with Philip Owosu here). Ironically, we can't really think of a better way to say "hello again" than "Goodnight." By that we mean the online premiere of the song by that name, a beautiful slow-building, piano-and-drum driven ballad that sounds like the musiq-al soulchild of Daryl Hall and Donell Jones--but with a more sophisticated, jazz-inflected sneak attack than any of those names I just dropped. If this thing doesn't convince you that you need to up the Owusu quotient in your life immediately, you may be beyond help. A lucky few listeners who caught the radio premiere via Gilles Peterson--and a very lucky, very few who attended an intimate listening session for the album at the home of DJ Scribe here in NYC--already knew. To the rest of you, we are extremely amped to say: World Premiere!
