According to a Deadline report, the iconic director (and recently-appointed president of the Cannes Film Festival jury,) is set to adapt David Byrne's smash Broadway production, American Utopia, for the big screen. Currently the resident show at NYC's Hudson Theater (running through February 16th,) American Utopia applies the high-style Stop Making Sense concert film formula to Byrne's 2018 album with the Talking Heads founder and an 11-piece band running through songs from the project and various cuts from his catalog.

"This couldn’t have worked out better for this project," Byrne says in a statement. He adds, "Spike Lee directing and Participant producing—two socially engaged teams, well, three if you count us in the band, coming together in what I feel will be something moving, important, and unlike anything anyone has seen before." The report notes Lee's film adaptation will arrive this year, though a precise date has yet to be revealed.
Until then, you can catch an early glimpse on Broadway. Tickets for the remaining dates are available via Hudson Theater's site.
