Stream Big Sean's 'Detroit 2,' Featuring Dave Chappelle, Erykah Badu, & More
Detroit 2 is the sequel to Big Sean's classic 2012 mixtape.
One of Big Sean's most beloved projects is Detroit, an excellent mixtape released in 2012. (The mixtape was so popular it crashed Datpiff at the time.)
Now, after a couple of off years from the veteran rapper, Big Sean is returning to his roots. Big Sean has just released Detroit 2, the official sequel to his classic mixtape.
This time the project is an official album. And it's a star-studded affair. Detroit 2 features appearances from Anderson .Paak, Diddy, Young Thug, Lil Wayne, Jhené Aiko, Nipsey Hussle, Wale, and more. The album also contains a monster posse cut featuring basically every popular Detroit rapper, from Kash Doll to Boldy James to Sada Baby to Eminem. On the production side, Sean worked with Hit-Boy, No I.D., Mustard, Mike WiLL Made-It, Cool & Dre, Helluva, and more.
The original Detroit mixtape featured stories about the city from A-listers like Young Jeezy, Common, and Snoop Dogg (then going by Snoop Lion). Sean returned to the previous format this time around, with Erykah Badu, Stevie Wonder, and Dave Chappelle bringing their experiences with Detroit to the table.
The first single from the album is "Deep Reverence," which features a verse from Nipsey Hussle. We talked with Hit-Boy about the making of the song. He told us:
"[Before we made the song me and Sean] had an hour-long conversation. A lot of stuff he said in the song, he had told me in conversation. I said “you gotta put this shit in a song, everything you just told me. Man, I got this Nip verse that’s been sitting…” Pulled it up, and he went crazy. He blacked out on that shit."
