Early Reactions to 'Suicide Squad' Rave Over a Hilarious, Violent, and Heart-Filled Pseudo-Sequel
Read the first round of fan and critic reviews for James Gunn's Suicide Squad treatment.
More than a week out from the official release of Suicide Squad, hot and cold takes are already rolling in. With the media embargo fully lifted, both critics and pedestrians alike are sending up their thoughts. And they appear to be overwhelmingly in praise of the latest installment of the anti-hero epic from DC Comics.
FanDOM Managing Editor, Eric Goldman, describes James Gunn's DC entry as a film that "delightfully, gleefully goes all out with mayhem, gore, profanity and naughtiness." Gizmodo contributor, Germain Lussier, confirms "The Suicide Squad is as funny, irreverent and violent as promised." A self-proclaimed skeptic, even People's Kara Warner raves over Suicide Squad's "balls to the wall bonkers" team of assassins and criminals earning their R-rating in "very entertaining ways."
The first round of reactions to the pseudo-sequel is all of a similar pitch, gushing over Gunn's blend of humor, violence, and heart in repackaging a DC title from just a few years back. The film features Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark, John Cena as Peacemaker, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Peter Capaldi as the Thinker, David Dastmalchianas as Polka-Dot Man, and that barely even scratches the surface of the DC villains making appearances in Gunn's treatment.
