SZA & LaKeith Stanfield Go On the Run In "Shirt" Music Video
SZA has released the music video for "Shirt," her first solo single in over a year, which will appear on her long-awaited sophomore album.
SZA and LaKeith Stanfield get into a violent, Natural Born Killers-styled getaway in the "Shirt" music video. Directed by Dave Meyers, the visual shows the New Jersey-raised vocalist and Stanfield going on a killing spree before SZA gets killed, later resurrected to seducingly torment her once-beau. In the video's outro, an unreleased song from SZA is played.
The song's snippet was unveiled on TikTok in 2020, later placed at the outro of her "Good Days" music video. The full version of "Shirt" was ultimately teased during SZA's performance at Mad Cool Festival in Madrid when the singer claimed that "Kiss Me More" collaborator Doja Cat would also appear on the song. Although Top Dawg Entertainment president Terrence "Punch" Henderson Jr. debunked this rumor in a Complex profile on SZA, the singer expressed that her forthcoming album had inspired her to level up.
“I appreciate [my fans] patience, but constantly trying to people-please and fulfill expectations instead of just thinking about what you need can deter you from your true path,” she told Complex. “And the next thing you know, you’re somebody that you never signed up to be. Even with this album, I just wanna be better than my last project to myself. I wanna be a better writer. I wanna be a better artist, musician… a better thinker. I just wanna do things that make myself proud and interested.”
