Ta-Ku Shares His Vibes-Saturated Estelle Cover "American Girl" ft. Wafia
The vibes. They're gone. There are no more vibes. Ta-ku has soaked them all up with this woozy new cover of Estelle's "American Girl," which was posted to SoundCloud late Thursday night and features the vocal talents of both Ta-ku himself and rising vocalist Wafia (who has immediately earned a spot at the top of our "artists to watch" list).
As he posted the cover track to SoundCloud, Ta-ku described the cut as such:
American Girl started as a joke when I was watching old Kobe Bryant highlights and Estelle's ''American Boy'' was the soundtrack. I really wanted to make a stripped back #emotional version that would play on its really great melodic structure. I reached out to my lovely friend Wafia to sing a duet with me & mustered enough courage to jump on the first verse. I'm very proud of this song. I hope you enjoy it.
Enjoy it indeed. 'Ku's version is so smooth and sultry, you should almost consider listening to it in a private browsing window. Yes, it's that damn good. Wafia's pure, icy voice is the perfect compliment to the track's lush strings, and the entire track rides slowly and just-right, like a sunrise after fall's first frost. We could go on about the piano's gorgeous reverb and that the swooping, dipping synth chords, but it'd be a waste. Words can't hope to capture this.
Plenty of American girls and boys will finally get the chance to witness Ta-ku perform live when he takes the stage at MoMA PS1 in New York City on October 25th--a show that has been sold out for weeks now. You can already purchase "American Girl" on iTunes, and it's already available for streamingbelow. Do your best to keep it together now; we weren't kidding when we said there were no more vibes.
