Thanks to Stans, Mariah Carey's Album "Glitter" Jumped to No. 2 on iTunes
#JusticeForGlitter: “Mariah Carey did more for music with the soundtrack to Glitter than The Beatles ever did during their respective careers.”
Mariah Carey's 2001 album, Glitter saw a sudden surge in streaming this week, topping the iTunes albums chart Thursday.
As the album steadily re-surfaced on the charts last night, Carey tweeted, "Not sure what's happening but I love it!"
The artist posted a statement on Thursday, thanking fans writing, "I have to dedicate today's #tbt to Glitter, which is currently #1 on the iTunes albums chart, 17 years after its release and on the eve of my new album release! My fans are THE BEST."
The soundtrack to the film Glitter — which Carey also starred in — was released in 2001 to not-so-warm reviews. But hardcore Mariah fans sought to change that narrative with the hashtag #JusticeForGlitter after the legendary singer stopped by Genius for an interview about her songwriting history.
One fan tweeted, "Mariah Carey did more for music with the soundtrack to “Glitter” than The Beatles ever did during their respective careers."
