The Unreleased, The Dream-Assisted Version of Jay-Z's "Holy Grail" is Now on TIDAL
The Dream previewed the track during his Instagram Live battle with Sean Garrett.
The nationwide calls for shelter-in-place have altered musicians' plans for the foreseeable future. DJs, songwriters, and producers have taken full advantage of the downtime. Over the weekend, The-Dream and Sean Garrett had their own Instagram Live battle.
While many gave the nod to Garrett, The Dream made headlines with an impromptu premiere. He co-wrote and produced "Holy Grail," the intro from Jay-Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail album. "Jay's probably gonna kill me for playing this," he said before playing the original reference track. Days after the battle is in the books, the full track is available to stream on Tidal. The Dream linked up with Timbaland, J-Roc, and No I.D. to produce "Holy Grail." Timbaland--part of the initial wave of producer/DJ battles--handled production for most of the album.
The Dream-Garrett battle spurred another solid matchup for R&B songwriters. On Sunday night, Johnta Austin and Ne-Yo drew over 75,000 viewers for their 20-song battle. In the wake of the momentous occasion, Tidal also created an exclusive playlist based on the battle.
