The Internet's Syd & Matt Martians Announce Solo Albums

The Internet's very own Syd and Matt Martians are prepping for the release of their own solo albums, as revealed in a new interview with The Fader.

Syd's solo debut, which will be called Dive, reportedly has 14 tracks. Most of the songs were written with Nick Green, and includes collaborations with fellow Internet member Steve Lacy, Hit-Boy and MeLo-X (was also contributed to Beyonce's Lemonade).

Discussing the album Syd said, "This is my descent into the depth I want the band to get to. For me, this is like an in-between thing – maybe get a song on the radio, maybe make some money, have some new shit to perform."

As for Martians, his solo debut (which is currently untitled) will also serve as his only solo album. He described the music as "very weird and wonky but it's very core-heavy and melodic." He added, "They don't sound like Internet songs, [but] they sound like people that are in the Internet.”

Martians may also release one more project with rapper and producer Pyramid Vritra, through their collaborative duo The Jet Age of Tomorrow, too.

The Internet's other members – Lacy, Jameel Bruner, Patrick Paige II and Chris Smith – also have solo music in the works. It'll be particularly interesting to see what Steve, the youngest member of the group, creates through his solo endeavors, considering he's also produced for Tyler The Creator and Kali Uchis.

And as for the follow up to The Internet's well received, Grammy nominated Ego Death? They plan on releasing that some time in spring 2017, with writing and recording for the album beginning this month.

Matt Martians detail their plan for recording the album: "We're gonna get in a room with some instruments and we're gonna make shit and come up with mad grooves and record 'em."
