Sho'nuff! 'The Last Dragon' Is Headed Back To Theaters For One Night Only In NYC
UPDATE: And, just like that. The screening has sold out. Excuse us while we cry neon tears of sadness.
In the 30 years since the film's original debut, The Last Dragonhas emerged as one of the most revered in the Motown's all-too-short cinematic legacy. '80s babies and cult film enthusiasts almost unanimously agree that the tale of Harlem's Bruce Leroy Green is one of the best that 1985 had to offer, seamlessly blending the West's full-bloom hip-hop culture and the East's focus on martial arts-fueled cine-madness. The result wrangled one of Prince's leading ladies (Vanity), first time actor Taimakand a bevy of soon-to-be seasoned film vets (Julius J. Carry III, Ernie Reyes, Chazz Palminteri and William H. Macy amongst others) into a film that oozed kung-fu fanboy-ism, quotables and a soundtrack that was equally as iconic (I mean, Willie Hutch, DeBarge and post-Prince Vanity?!)
And though most of our viewings are now reduced to laptop screens or haze-filled living rooms, Tribeca's about to give us the opportunity to experience the film on the big screen for the first time since it's release. As a 30th anniversary toast to the film that taught us about "the glow" and the secrets of Master Sum Dum Guy, they will be hosting a one-night-only screening at Tribeca Cinemas (54 Varick St.) next Thursday, June 11th and we're hoping all of you NYC locals get the chance to indulge. Cop your ticket by hitting the link and take a stroll down memory lane by watching the original trailer for the film below. We'll see y'all there, sho'nuff!
