Watch The Roots & Bilal Perform A Gorgeous Cover Of John Lennon's "Mother" Live
This past weekend, a star-studded line-up of musicians and artists hit the stage at Madison Square Garden to tip their hats and salute the late John Lennon. This year the Fab Four alum (and legendary songwriter in his own right) would have turned 75-years-old, and though he is no longer in this world, his work and peace-championing sentiments live and inspire to this day.
Just take it from The Roots, who hit the stage with frequent collaborator and once-in-a-generation vocalist Bilalto perform an absolutely gorgeous cover of Lennon's heart-rending catharsis "Mother." The performance takes on particularly deep meaning for the Illa Fifth crew with Black Thought writing an emotional account of losing his own parents at a tragically young age and Bilal howling away into dim halls of MSG; haunting the crowd in all of the right ways. So if you couldn't foot the bill for a night under the lights in Times Square, press play down below and experience all of the feels in one six-minute stretch. Just be sure to have a tissue ready, there are no bounds to the emotions that you'll experience.
