'The Wire' Has Its Own Course At Pittsburgh School Of Law
The University of Pittsburgh School of Law has a course inspired by The Wire.
Titled "Crime, Law and Society in The Wire," the course is described as followed on the Pittsburgh Law website:
"This course will use The Wire as a text to study many of the most important and intractable problems in the criminal justice system in America today, including drug enforcement, race, confessions, police manipulation of crime statistics, mass incarceration, use of force, gender, criminal organizations, gun violence, and honesty and accountability in law enforcement."
The class, taught by David A. Harris, has students watch the first season of The Wire, as well as another season (although other episodes may be assigned too). From there, the students are not only responsible for leading group discussions on episodes and topics assigned to them, but for writing two papers focusing on issues that are presented in The Wire.
If you happen to be a law student at the University of Pittsburgh and a fan of The Wire, you may want to check this course out.
Many of the actors from The Wire have gone on to be a part of other notable projects. Michael K. Williams, who played Omar Little on the HBO series, was also a part of Boardwalk Empire, portraying Albert "Chalky" White. He recently joined the cast of the untitled Star Wars solo film on Han Solo, although it is unknown who he will portray.
The young Han Solo project already features Alden Ehrenreich in the title role, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca and Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian.
