Throwback Thursdays: The Roots Live At Montreux Jazz Fest 1994
It is getting so that Throwback Thursday is our favorite day of the week around here, an excellent excuse to dig up classic videos and live performances from the archives and set ourselves adrift on memory bliss (so to speak). This week, the homie known as High Voltage at ItsAllTheWayLive reminded us about this live performance by The Roots at Montreux Jazz Fest on July 4th, 1994 (18 years ago almost to the month--that's correct; babies that were made to this music should be attending college this fall). Or as Dave described it:
This is truly one of the earliest Roots shows you will ever experience. In this baby version of The Roots, the talented Nikki Yeoh handled the duties on piano and keyboards, a very talkative (!) Hub slapped the bass, while an energetic kid by the name of Black Thought was joined by Malik B to rock the mic (a rare treat to see them perform a full set together). If this mastered soundboard recording wasn’t enough, as a bonus, we’re also premiering nearly 10 min of high quality video from the show for the first time.
