T.I. Gets Backlash for Admitting to Going With Daughter to Yearly Gynecologist Visits to "Check Her Hymen"
The rapper also admits that he has had a "sex talk" with his 18-year-old daughter.
UPDATE: Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham, the hosts of the Ladies Like Us podcast where T.I. made his controversial comments, has issued a statement on Instagram.
T.I. is catching fire for admitting he goes with 18-year-old daughter Deyja Harris to yearly gynecologist appointments to "check her hymen" to make sure its "still intact." In a podcast interview with Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham on Ladies Like Us the rapper also speaks about having a "sex talk" with Deyja, his parenting style and more.
Buzzfeed reports that T.I. also shared on the podcast that he mentioned after he 16th birthday, he posted a stickie note on her door that read: "Gyno. Tomorrow. 9:30."
He went on to expand on the visits by sharing:
"So we’ll go and sit down and the doctor comes and talk, and the doctor’s maintaining a high level of professionalism. He’s like, 'You know, sir, I have to, in order to share information' — I’m like, 'Deyjah, they want you to sign this so we can share information. Is there anything you would not want me to know? See, Doc? Ain't no problem.'"
Following his details on how their office visits go, he added that he's well aware that hymen can be broken in other ways than through sexual penetration. On this topic he said: "And so then they come and say, 'Well, I just want you to know that there are other ways besides sex that the hymen can be broken like bike riding, athletics, horseback riding, and just other forms of athletic physical activity." In response he reportedly said, "So I say, 'Look, Doc, she don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bike, she don’t play no sports. Just check the hymen, please, and give me back my results expeditiously.'"
T.I. made it a point to share that "I will say, as of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact." Users took to social media to express their thoughts on T.I.'s policing of his daughter's agency and sexuality.
