During a Twitter Q&A on Monday, Top Dawg Entertainment founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith teased a potential Black Hippy project.
Rap supergroup Black Hippy might gift fans a long-awaited project. During a Twitter Q&A on Monday (March 27), Top Dawg Entertainment founder Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith teased new material from the group, composed of Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolBoy Q,Jay Rock and Ab-Soul.
When a fan asked whether the four would do a remix of Tiffith's favorite Black Hippy track "Vice City," the TDE founder hinted at a potential full-length release.
Featured on Jay Rock's 2015 sophomore album 90059, "Vice City" marks BH's latest track. Over the years, Lamar, ScHoolBoy Q, Rock and Ab-Soul have appeared on each other's individual projects. In 2018, the Lamar-curated soundtrack Black Panther featured the aforementioned rapper on six tracks, while the remaining three had highlights including Q's "X" with 2 Chainz and Saudi, Ab-Soul's "Bloody Waters" with Anderson .Paak and James Black, and Rock's "King's Dead" with Lamar and Future. The latter song would go on to earn a Grammy for Best Rap Performance in 2019.
The four have since released their own celebrated bodies of work, like Lamar's Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, Q's Crash Talk and Rock's Redemption.
Ab-Soul, who released his fifth album Herbert last December, spoke to Okayplayer about the origins of BH for our On Demand series.
My brothers, man. It was a genius way for us to bring all of our audiences in one room," he told OKP.
During the Q/A session, Top Dawg also gave a hint about what to expect in 2023. He said if all goes as planned we should see albums from Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, Doechii, and a compilation.
