Tyler The Creator Recounts The Profound Impact Of Pharrell's 'In My Mind' In Touching Post
You don't have to dig too deep to see the creative lineage between Tyler The Creator and Pharrell. In many (not so subtle) ways, Tyler has always aspired to be the Skateboard P of his generation. And today, as Pharrell's solo debutIn My Mind celebrates its 10th anniversary, we find out just why from the Odd Future creator himself. Taking to Instagram, Tyler expressed just how profound an impactIn My Mind had on him as a 15 year-old black kid that couldn't relate to his trend-heavy peers and didn't have a male to look up to his in family and ensure him of his path.
Touchingly, Tyler breaks down the album almost track-by-track (""RASPY SHIT" WHICH IS THE WORST SONG IN YOUR DISCOGRAPHY I HATE THAT SONG SO MUCH YOU ARE SO GROSS FOR THAT,") and proves that Pharrell's In My Mind was acelebration of black weirdness that might not have been the blockbuster solo record the label was hoping for, but certainly ushered in an entirely new era of visionary talents like Tyler and his OFWGKTA crew. Read the entirety of Tyler's tribute below and if you haven't yet already, make sure you listen to The Roots' remix of the entire album for a new (arguably better) spin on P's 2006 breakout.
