It Took Fans Almost a Decade to Realize Tyler, the Creator Was in 'Grand Theft Auto V'

Tyler the Creator voiced a non-playable character in the 2013 video game.

Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto V back in 2013, but the game is still wildly popular. With the advent of online play and plentiful online heists to choose from, the game is on its third or fourth life cycle. Fans are still having fun with it, and over the weekend they found another reason to revisit involving Odd Future's Tyler the Creator.

"Why am I just now finding out Tyler the Creator voiced some random dude in GTA V," wrote one Twitter user with the character's dialogue. In the following days, Twitter users made it their mission to find Tyler's character in the game. Listen to Tyler's character wax poetic about potato salad and the reality of families below.

"I think @tylerthecreator hates his fans from beyond reality," one fan wrote. "Because I walked up to a character he voices in GTA V and he just started stabbing me for no reason."

The character's full dialogue was originally posted to YouTube back in 2015. Shortly after the game's release, Tyler tweeted "if you have GTA V I'm the voice of random people."

In one of the game's latest updates from last year, Tyler's good friend Danny Brown makes an appearance as radio DJ Yung Ancestor. His iFruit Radio channel featured tracks from the City Girls, ScHoolboy Q, Pop Smoke, and himself.

Back in August, ScHoolboy Q became the third member of their friend group to appear in a video game. Q, who recently picked up golf as a hobby, is featured as a player on PGA Tour 2K21. The game is available in stores now.
