Electro-funkateers Van Ike pick up the pace on Jhene Aiko's "The Worst" in their own glistening remake of the heartbreak ballad. What was once a somber down-trot love jones cut, gets some pep in its step as the Golden Coast duo inject the track with hints of neo-soul, trip-hop and '90s r&b, morphing it into an immaculately clean treatment that is sure to please the two-stepper in us all. Lush electric rhodes and bells are the blood of this body with a subtle, yet pervasive dance-floor friendly swing sitting just underneath the skin.
Van Ike is comprised of LA via BK producer Chuck Wildand songwriter extraordinaire Sam Barsh(responsible for cowriting Aloe Blacc's smash "The Man") and "The Worst" is far from the last we'll be hearing from the tandem. The track serves as an appetizer to their main dish, which will arrive in the form of their debut Notes To Self EP on August 26th. Keep your ears to the ground for the record, but in the meantime, get your fill with Van Ike's dressed-up take on Jhene Aiko's "The Worst" below. NYC folks can catch the duo as they hit SOHO's James Hotel August 31st and Williamsburg's The Drink on September 2nd, while LA concert goers should hit Hollywood's Sadie Lounge to see the boys get live.
