The First Trailer for 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' Features Plenty of Carnage But No Spider-Man
In the first Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer, we see two iconic Spider-Man villains face off.
The firstVenom movie, which was released in 2018, was one of the biggest superhero movies of the last couple of years, grossing nearly a billion dollars at the box office.
So a sequel was inevitable. And it's coming out later this year.
The first trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage was released on Monday (May 10th.) The trailer picks up where the first movie left off, showing Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his Venom symbiote enjoying a domesticated lifestyle. What makes this movie particularly exciting for fans is the inclusion of one of the darkest characters in the Spiderman universe, Carnage (who will be played by Woody Harrelson). Carnage, in his full form, makes brief appearance near the end of the trailer.
If you are wondering where Spider-Man fits in all of this... it gets complicated. As you probably know, Venom and Carnage are iconic Spider-Man villains. But because of movie business bullshit, it's unlikely that Spider-Man will appear in the Venom movies. (Basically, the Venom movies are made by Sony while Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios produce the Tom Holland Spider-Man films that have become beloved.)
After the trailer was released, a breakdown featuring commentary from Venom: Let There Be Carnage's director, Andy Serkis, was released. In it, he confirmed that Spider-Man won't be in the movie and, as of now, Venom and Carnage are in their own world:
"Obviously, there are links between Venom and Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe and the Spider-Man story, but in this, we're treating this very much as it's his own world, the Venom story is his own world... There are nods and little moments just like this, the newspaper Daily Bugle, of course, but on the whole, he's unaware, they're unaware, at this point of other characters like Spider-Man. So that's the way we've chosen to play this particular episode of the movie but well we'll wait and see what little things you can pick out of it."
Venom: Let There Be Carnage comes out only in theaters on September 24th. Check out the first trailer below.
