Vic Mensa Stands By His XXXTentacion Diss at the 2018 BET Hip-Hop Awards
Vic Mensa is not backing down.
Vic Mensa is standing by a freestyle he did at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in which he called out deceased rapper XXXTentacion.
During one of the cyphers, Vic allegedly rapped “Your favorite rapper is an abuser” and then named dropped XXXTentacion, who had a long list of domestic abuse accusations against his ex-girlfriend. Soon after details came out about the freestyle, a slew of XXXTentacion fans, collaborators, and supporters criticized Vic for going after the deceased rapper, especially considering that XXX's mother, Cleopatra Bernard, was in attendance. Making things even more sticky is the fact that Vic has had his own history with domestic abuse.

On Monday, October 8th, Vic put out a video on his Instagram where he doubles down on his view:
Recently, I did a freestyle for the BET Award cypher addressing and condemning rappers who unabashedly abuse women and those who stand up for them and even call them legends...I stand behind those statements.
The rapper also added that he recorded the freestyle weeks ago and wasn't aware that Bernard would be in attendance. He said:
I never intended to disrespect her, and I offer my deepest condolences for her loss at the hands of gun violence...However, I vehemently reject the trend in Hip Hop of championing abusers, and I will not hold my tongue about it. I don’t give a fuck about getting attention. I care about bringing awareness and holding people accountable for their actions.
