November 12, 2019
Staples was tapped to work on the film's soundtrack, he then saw Queen & Slim and would later enlist 6LACK and Mereba to work on a song with him.
Ahead of the release of Lena Waithe and Melina Matsouka's forthcoming film Queen & Slim, the soundtrack drops yet another single, "Yo Love." Featuring Vince Staples, 6LACK and Mereba, the new song is an exploratory depiction of love.
In a recent Beats 1 interview Staples shares that he was asked to work on the soundtrack, after watching the film he enlisted 6LACK and Mereba to work on a song with him.
On the song the rapper shared:
"I seen the movie and I was like, 'Aw man, they shot the police, that’s crazy. I can get with this because it’s not real, it’s a movie. It’s a figment of imagination, we would never encourage anyone to uprise like that in real life because we don’t need that at this point in the world, right? Boom, other things happened, there were more shootings, there was a Cadillac de Ville, there was a brothel, there was a lot of nature. I was like, 'Man, this is crazy, this is inspiring. I should call 6LACK' -- and that’s what happened."
The Queen & Slim soundtrack is set to arrive on November 15, the film will hit theaters on November 27. Listen to "Yo Love" below.
