Vince Staples Defends Christian Mother's 'Norf Norf' Rant Video
So, maybe you've seen it, maybe you haven't — but a recent viral video has popped up showing a white mom offering her thoughts on Vince Staples' "Norf Norf," after hearing the song being played on a local radio station.
The mother critiques the song and does not censor herself from saying all of the lyrics, while also discussing how she grew up with pop stars such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
"I could not believe what I was hearing," the mom said in the 11 minute video. "We wonder why this society is so messed up — listen to the music."
Now, in a new interview with the Independent about the video, Staples reportedly said "It's not right to attack someone over their stance, their opinions, and their religion. I think that's very immature."
He then took to Twitter to clarify his statements, saying that he had been misquoted in the piece.
The following was his response:
"What I was saying was that the woman in that video is clearly confused on the context of the song which causes her to be frightened. She also, in my opinion, seems to be emotionally unstable. With both those things being said, she has a right to her opinion. No person needs to be attacked for their opinion on what they see to be appropriate for their children. They have a right to it. This misunderstanding of our community leads to miscommunication which we should convert into a progressive dialogue."
The Prima Donna rapper does speak to the difference in perspective between himself and the mom, but it's unfortunate that in his awareness there lacks that same sense of understanding on her part. Still, the rapper totally takes the high road in this situation, and uses it as a means of promoting better communication between people.
