Watch Chris Rock and El Debarge Crash The Final Night of Robert Glasper's Legendary Blue Note Residency
Chris Rock returned to the Blue Note on Saturday night to send off Robert Glasper's October residency at the Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC.
Over the weekend, Robert Glasper closed up shop on another month-long run at NYC's iconic Blue Note Jazz Club. Keeping with the guest-heavy spirit of the intimate concert series, some famous friends dropped by to help the acclaimed pianist send "Robtober" off on a fitting note. Namely, Chris Rock and El Debarge.
In his return to the Blue Note stage, Rock was a consummate master of ceremonies, warming up the crowd with a few jabs at Kevin Hart and Kyrie "Vaccine Adverse" Irving, as well as riffing on the joys of "jazz camp" and finally being on the more tolerable side of the pandemic, which opened up the floor for Glasper to recount the endless list of musicians and entertainers the have graced the stage over the last month. Glasper then tips a hat to Q-Tip, Dave Chappelle, Common, H.E.R., Meshell Ndegeocello, Kamasi Washington, Bilal, and PJ Morton, for their contributions to the residency. In another clip shared by the club on Instagram, Debarge leads the audience through an airtight rendition of "I Like It," skipping no vocal runs whatsoever.
And though the residency has officially come and gone, Glasper has a good grip of live dates ahead, including a four-night installation at City Winery in Chicago next month and a performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the top of 2022. Head over to Ticketmaster to reserve your stubs. Glasper was also extensively featured on Dinner Party bandmate Terrace Martin's new album, Drones, which arrived last Friday with appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Ty Dolla $ign, Channel Tres, Leon Bridges, and more.
